There are 25.4 millimetres in an inch of rain.  Recent figures suggest that the average yearly rainfall in the United Kingdom is around 1330 millimetres, which equates to just over 52 inches.

Rainfall in the United Kingdom pales in comparison to other places in the world, however, and I'll try to outline some of the wettest places below.

The wettest place in the world

Based on average annual rainfall figures, the wettest place in the world is Mawsynram in India, which has an average yearly rainfall total of 11,873 mm (467 inches).  That's A LOT of rain!

In close second is Cherrapunji, which has an average yearly rainfall total of 11,430 millimetres (450 inches).  You're obviously not much drier their at all!

Driest place in the world

The driest place in the world is the Atacama Desert, which makes the United Kingdom look very wet.  It has an average yearly rainfall of 25 millimetres (around 1 inch). Those figures make me thirsty just thinking about them!
