Most of the metals have one or tow electrons in their outermost shell . Except a few , they exist as solids at room temperature. They show a shiny lustre. They are malleable and ductile and are good conductors of heat and electricity. Usually, they have high melting and boiling points. About do of the elements are metals. Metals are found on the left side of the periodic table. Metals in the form of minerals constitute about 25 % of earth's crust. Chemically less reactive metals occur in nature in free state while more reactive metals are found in form of compounds such as oxides, sulphides, halides, carbohydrates and sulphates.
Importance of metals:
Various articles of daily life are made from metals. Metals are commercially used for manufacture of ships, aero planes, motor cars and various industrial machines. Iron bars are used in the construction of buildings. Metal wires of pure copper and aluminum are used for the supply of electricity. Lead is used for water pipes. Aluminum is used in alloys for manufacturing of different parts of ships and aero planes and different heavy machinery.

Metal is important to our society because if we didnt have metal we wouldn't be able to have the everyday living things we have today. E.g kettles to make tea and coffee, toasters to make toast, chairs so we can sit on. Extra thankyou x
