First, have a leak test done on the car by a professional.

It could be the matter of replacing a small part or the whole air conditioning system. Even if you want to do the job for yourself, this leak finding service should be the one thing that you should get the professionals to do. It could save you a lot of money and will save you a lot of time for not much expense.

The most common problem is, after all, a hole in the condsener. If you live in a part of the country where they regularly salt the roads during the winter months, there's a chance a big chunk of grit could have got flung in to the system and created the hole. The leak test will tell you if that's where the problem lies and the garage will also recommend whether you need to replace it or recharge it.

The low side port for the air condititoning system is located on the compressor. It is below the intake manifold on the driver's site. The high side port can be found near the steering pump at the edge of the driver's side engine compartment. If your care dates back to before 1994 you will have the old R12 refrigerant system which has now been outlawed in the USA making it near impossible to find a direct replacement. Therefore a simple small part replacement is what you are going to have to hope for with this job.

If you do need to replace the system though, you can get a conversion kit to allow your old system to use the new R-134a fittings.

My 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse a/c isn't working correctly.  When I first start out the a/c is green and it blows cold air; but then after a short time the a/c light begins to flash and it starts blowing hot air.  If I turn the engine off and back on, the process starts also over again. So what is the problem?

If your ac light is blinking it means that your ac compressor is not engaging. Your belt could have come off but if you still have power steering then thats not the case. If you still have p/s then there is a problem with the electromagnet that engages the compressor or a wiring problem.

If your ac light is blinking it means that your ac compressor is not engaging. It is possible that the belt slipped off, but if you still have power steering this is not the case. If you still have p/s then there is a problem with the electromagnetic clutch that engages your compressor or there could be a problem with the wiring to the ac clutch.

Run a jumper wire from your battery to your a/c compressor, if the compressor engages, your ac/compressor is good, Check the a/c relay and fuses, if they are all good, check your switch. IF the light and fan goes on but still not compressor, it good be a bad switch or wiring problem

Try your high pressure switch take a wire jump both sides of the plug. If compressor and fan kick replace your high pressure switch. If you take a wire from your battery to your compressor it will only kick on the compressor not the fan and compressor. Which will cause your car to over heat a lot of people make that mistake and end up blowing there head gaskets or heads. My girlfriend has the 2001 eclipse and just had to do the same thing to hers.

There is a possibility that the fan of A/C is not working properly or some wire has got fire. So you can show it to some expert.

Ok for starters do not brag about letting out freon into the air. That is a federal offense and you may be paying a fine from some tree hugging EPA guy for trying to get your stuff cold.
