Here are some ways in which WE can help save the tropical Borneo rainforests and be environmentally responsible!
AT HOME
Recycle and reuse everything such as newspapers, paper bags, cans, glass bottles, aluminum foil and scrap metal.
Try and use cold water and don’t run it needlessly.
Store food in re-usable containers, instead of plastic wrap or aluminum foil.
Take unwanted, re-usable items to a charitable organization.
Install a water-saving shower head.
Turn off the lights or other electrical appliances when you're out of a room and don’t use it unnecessarily.
IN YOUR YARD
Start a compost pile to put your leaves and yard debris into.
Use organic fertilizers.
Put up bird feeders, bird houses and birdbaths.
Pull weeds instead of using herbicides.
Use mulch in your garden.
Plant short, dense shrubs so that it will insulate your home against the cold.
PERSONAL THINGS
Join a conservation organization and volunteer your time to the projects.
Donate money to the charities so that it will help the tropical Borneo rainforests.
SPREAD THE WORD
Encourage family members and friends to participate in the organizations as well.
Teach children to respect nature and the environment.
ON TRANSPORT
Carpool with friends and family, if possible.
Try to use public transport or ride your bike.
Don’t litter the roads and highways.
Buy a more fuel efficient model when you're ready for a new car.
AT WORK
Recycle and reuse whenever possible.
Print or copy on both sides of the paper.
Use washable coffee mugs.
Use the stairs instead of the elevator.
Buy paper products instead of plastic if you must buy "disposables." They break down better in the environment and don't deplete the ozone layer as much.
Check the energy rating of major appliances you purchase. Buy only the most energy-efficient models.
Buy locally-grown food and locally-made products when possible.
Don't buy products made from endangered animals.
ON VACATION
Carry reusable cups, dishes, and flatware.
Don’t litter.
Don't pick flowers or keep wild creatures for pets.
Don't buy souvenirs made from wild or endangered animals.
Watch out for wildlife, especially on roads.
Stay on the trail so you don’t trample on the fragile undergrowth.
Hope you do these things!
