The weather in France can vary greatly and it is actually said to have four different climates depending on the region.

The west of France is said to have a maritime climate which results in wet winters and cool summers and is prone to a lot of fog and mist. Central France has a more continental climate with a longer, hotter summer and milder winters than in the west.

Around Perpignan, Marseille and Nice, the climate is more Mediterranean; therefore summers are very humid and dry with winters a lot milder than the rest of France. Finally, France's mountainous regions have, predictably, a mountain climate - these are the coldest regions in France with harsh winters and cool summers.

Its varying climates make France appealing to lots of different tourists. Skiers love to visit the French Alps, whilst sun-seekers head for the sand and warmth of Nice and Marseille.

When planning a visit to any country, it is always a good idea to check their monthly average temperatures. This way, you know what kind of heat to expect and can ensure to pack appropriate clothes accordingly.
