The Electronic Arts game ‘The Sims’ is not currently available to play online. The extremely popular life-strategy simulation game is available on a wide range of platforms including PCs and Macs, video game consoles and handheld devices. The EA online store now lets you download some of the games straight onto your PC or Mac hard drive, but costs approximately the same as purchasing the CD from a shop.
The very first Sims game was released in 2000, followed in fairly quick succession by seven expansion packs that allowed Sims players to give their simulated worlds a range of new objects, actions and personalities. These expansion packs ranged from taking your Sims on holiday to taking them on dates, and they could even create magic!
After the popularity of the first Sims game and with the availability of increasingly better technology, it wasn’t long before EA Games enhanced the gameplay experience of with the sequel to the game, The Sims 2. While the game still had the basic concepts of the original Sims, players could now create their Sims with much greater detail and design their simulated world more realistically. Realising the benefits of expansion packs, The Sims 2 was quickly preceded by a mix of additional add-ons that could give your neighbourhoods seasons and weather, see your teenage Sims off to university, and create dogs for your fictitious family to grow affectionate towards.
Technology shows no signs of taking a break, so after producing add-ons for The Sims 2 for three years, EA Games released yet another start to a more advanced game, The Sims 3. This time Sims can be manipulated right down to a tiny tattoo on their shoulder and neighbourhoods can be explored by the Sims on foot or by car with no loading screens. Still as popular as ever, The Sims 3 has a mix of add-ons and expansion packs that will keep fans going until the next generation of The Sims hits stores.
