A coal-fired generator burns coal (chemical energy) to heat water to steam (thermal energy) to turn a turbine (mechanical energy) to create electricity (electrical energy). I'm sure part of the point of the exercise is that you learn to recognize the different forms energy can have and be able to put names to them.
