Dr Marcian Edward "Ted" Hoff Jr was born on October 28, 1937 in Rochester, New York. He is one of the persons who were involved in the invention of Microprocessor. Hoff joined Intel as worker number 12 in 1968. He is the one who came up with the idea of a universal processor in place of the normal custom made circuits.

His ideas kick started the microprocessor revolution in the early 1970's. Around 1980, he was given the name "First Intel Fellow" which is the uppermost technical post in the company and he retained the position till 1983.

Hoff obtained his electrical engineering bachelors degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the year 1958. He got his first two patents when he was working as an undergraduate for the General Railway Company of Rochester, New York.
