Countries on the equator tend to be hotter than those in the northern or southern hemisphere, because they receive the most sunlight.
There are thirteen countries on the equator:
Consequently, there's significantly less life on the North and South Pole - few animals survive there (it's mainly microscopic organisms), and the only vegetation in the Antarctic is tundra. You won't find many people there!

There aren’t actually any countries in the Antarctic circle, just territories! Most of these have been claimed by Australia, although the United Kingdom and Chile each have a couple.
