Use a styrafome ball with a "slice" out o it and glue things like a small bouncy ball for the nucleus

Clay, play dough, Styrofoam, block of wood, basically anything you can cut and shape and glue objects to.
You can use clay and use it like the cells of the animal or plants, you can only use clay only and put the right color
It is fun to make it with food, but it is a waste. Just use a box for the cell. Thats easy just find one. Shoe box.
Oh but it is so much fun making it with food. But you could use a piece of styrofoam and put a piece of yarn/string around it for the membrane. And cut out the other parts and stick them into the styrofoam.
Make a oval like shape with a missing slice out of lego and build the inside with clay
