NaCl is an example of a(n) ionic compound.
NaCl is the chemical formula for the compound, sodium chloride which is known commonly as table salt or common salt. It forms the major component of the slat that we eat or use in foods and also used as a preservative. It is produced by evaporating sea water. Concentrated NaCl solution is called Brine. It is used in industry as well for the production of paper, dyeing textiles and making soaps. It is found in crystalline form because of which it can be use for optical purposes. It is generally obtained by evaporating salt water and not by mixing sodium with chlorine because both these elements are very reactive and can result in accidents if combined directly.
