There are a number of social policies that may affect a person's future as a human services worker, and these depend on the departments that a person is working in, and what their job role is.

  • Healthcare policies
Those working in the area of healthcare may be affected if a social policy was introduced to centralize certain services. If this was to happen, then there would inevitably be cutbacks in terms of jobs and money spent on certain areas of healthcare.

  • Welfare policies
Changes to the welfare system could affect a worker in this area in two ways. If benefits were cut, it could have a detrimental effect on the lives of many, and if someone was working on a one to one basis with people who were on benefits this could affect the relationship that the two parties have. Another effect of a change to welfare policies would be that there would be less people needed to work in the sector, and job losses may be required.

  • Pension policies
As with the healthcare and welfare policy examples, changes to pension policy could have a bearing on the future employment of somebody working in this sector. Pensions and the timing of their payout is constantly under review, and this could have a detrimental effect on many people in this sector.

  • Education policies
Merging schools to save money is a popular policy at the moment in some parts of the world, including the United Kingdom. People working in education will be threatened by this, as there will inevitably be less jobs for teachers and support staff. This will affect morale, and will have a knock-on effect to the pupils of the schools in question.

Various environmental and governmental policies directly affect social practices in the field of HR. If an organization changes the social policy related to the removal of housing benefits to the employees, then it can raise several implications for the employees working in an organization.  The main purpose of social policies is to welfare people by providing them facilities such as education , health, housing, safe working conditions, fair compensation etc. If a policy is initiated regarding change in the benefits or change in working conditions, human services worker need to address the social issues related to the well being of employees.
