The first practical and high speed printer to be developed was the one made by Remington-Rand that was to be connected with and used through the Univac computer in the year 1953. His invention was based on the invention of the dry printing process invented by Chester Carlson In 1938 which we commonly know as electrophotography or Xerox. Laser printers were developed at the Xerox’s research center in 1971 by Gary Starkweather. Hewlett-Packard (HP) launched the LaserJet 4 which was the first 600×600 dots per inch resolution laser printer in the year 1992.
