On April 15th 1770, Joseph priestly declared that he had found a vegetable gum that can erase marks but the first eraser made out of the gum was presented the same year by Edward Narine in an inventions competition. In 1839, Charles Goodyear discovered the process of vulcanization that made it possible to make erasers very common.
