The gallbladder is a small pouch that sits just under the liver. The gallbladder stores bile produced by the liver.

The gallbladder is located in a concave space called the "Gallbladder Fossa".

It is located below the lobe of the liver in a cystic duct that serves to join the common hepatic duct and the bile duct.

If you feel pain or discomfort in your gallbladder, then it could be any of a number of conditions, including:

  • infection
  • inflammation
  • gallstones (which could result in distension and obstruction of the duct)
  • liver inflammation close to gallbladder,
  • long necked gallbladder floating
Although there is no way of telling the severity without a medical examination, gallbladder problems should be seen to by a medical professional as a matter of priority, so don't put off visiting a doctor if you suffer even mild symptoms.
