The liver in a human body is located in the upper right side of your abdomen, directly underneath the diaphragm. It is protected by the rib cage.
The liver is a vital organ that is constantly being used for various functions and it is vital in maintaining good health. Unfortunately there are a number of diseases that can affect your liver which can be hereditary or reactions to chemicals and drugs. The liver is the largest internal organ within the human body and weighs between one and three pounds. It is a reddish brown in colour and it is divided into four sections called lobes. The liver provides a number of functions and processes that it is responsible for. Functions include absorbing vitamins, creating and developing vital proteins, cleaning the bloodstream, as well as producing bile and cholesterol.
As mentioned above there are a number of diseases that can threaten the liver, with one such disease being cirrhosis. The cause of this disease is by drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, and the dangerous thing about this disease is that you may not be aware of it until there is already damage.
There is however things that you can do and change to help keep your liver healthy which can include limiting the amount of fatty foods you consume. This is important because the liver produces around 80 per cent of the cholesterol in your body so you don't want to add too much with fatty foods. Also, you should try and avoid alcohol as well as the amount of medication you take because too much medication can cause damage.
