Aux Arcs answer is the only one here that answers the question properly.

The forests are carbon sinks and they bind much of the CO2 released into the atmosphere into their food and building material. This equation of photosynthesis shows this process.

6CO2 + 6H2O --> C6H12O6 + 6O2

Forests all over the world should be properly managed to avoid clear cutting. Planned cutting, usage of trees and replanting would help maintain the health of our planet.

EVERYWHERE where oxygen is required as a life sustaining element.

Clearcutting is destructive on many levels .. And should be against the law anywhere on the globe .. There are many ways to assist in the regrowth and protection of top soil and decrease anything that could be detrimental to the environment.
