Why would it be impossible to mix lead nitrate solution with silver chloride solution?

Silver salts, AgCl for instance, are insoluble. This is why a precipitate reaction occurs when silver is allowed to pick up chloride ( AgNO3 + NaCl, for instance )in solution. Silver has a strong affinity for chloride.
