Sodium chloride irrigation solution is a sterile solution that exerts a type of cleansing mechanical action that is employed in the sterile irrigation of body tissues, cavities, urethral catheters and wounds. It is also used for rinsing and washing purposes of electrolyte solutions that are sterile and non-pyrogenic. It is also used for soaking instruments, laboratory specimens and surgical dressings. It is important to realize that sodium chloride irrigation is meant for tropical use and should not be administered by way of a parenteral injection. Sodium Chloride irrigation solutions are those that should be administered with care when administered with patients with cardiac or renal dysfunction. If hygienic measures are not undertaken then there is a risk of infection and once opened the solution should be administered as soon as possible.
