Plantae is the name of a taxonomic kingdom. It consists of several multi-cellular and eukaryotic organisms that have the capability to conduct the process of photosynthesis. This kingdom forms the basis of the food web in the terrestrial ecosystems. It is comprised of both living and extinct plants. It has vegetable organisms which contain chlorophyll, a substance that enables them to make their own food with the help of sunlight instead of seeking it from outside sources. Thus they are also known as autotrophs.

The organisms in this kingdom or plants do not have the ability to move from one place to another on their own as they lack the sensory organs that are specially needed for voluntary locomotion. This kingdom was previously known as Kingdom Vegetablia. This kingdom comprises of all the trees, flowers, herbs, bushes, grasses, vines, ferns and mosses. It is found in all parts of the earth in one form or the other.
