The Republic of Haiti or better known as Haiti lies and occupies the one third part of the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. The country of Haiti also includes many smaller islands like La Tortue and La Gonave, also included, La Grande Caye, Les Cayemites and Île de Anacaona.

The capital of Haiti is Port-au-Prince. The official languages spoken in Haiti are French and Haitian Creole. Haiti has a republican government and its president is 'Rene Preval'. The Prime Minister of Haiti is 'Jacques Edouard Alexis'. Formerly Haiti was a French colony; it gained its independence on the 1st of January in the year 1804. The estimated population of Haiti as of 2007 is around 8,658,000. Haiti has a very rich social culture and it is very well known for its music, religion and cuisine.
