A tsunami starts at a subduction zone. It can either be an ocean/ocean convergent boundary, or an ocean/continental boundary. When one of the plates is being forced under the other, the other over time springs back creating a tsunami. The tsunami then splits into two, going into two directions.

Tsunamis occur when a large underwater event generate a monstrous tidal wave capable of reaching heights over 100ft (30m) and threaten countless coastal communities. Tsunami warning centers monitor oceans around the world

There are two types of mechanical waves
1-longitudinal
2-tranverse
on the surface of water transvers & longitudinal waves both occurs while under the water only longitudinal waves occurs when a havy earthquaqe come on the bottem surface of sea then under the water of sea a large amaunt of longitudinal energy stored this large amaunt of energy moves with avery larg velocity towards the bank of sea and the water jumps over 100s feet high when collised with bank of sea

Tsunami (pronounced soo-nahm-ee) from the Japanese meaning Harbour Wave. They are sometimes called Tidal Waves which gives a false inpression as they have nothing whatsoever to do with the tides.

Tsunami are createded by earthquakes or volcanic eruptions, either on the ocean floor or on land. If the disruption is on the ocean floor either the Earth's crust is pushed up to create mountains along the fault line or in the case of an under water volcano magma spills out onto the ocean floor displacing masses of water creating a wave. An earthquake or volcano on land has the same effect with land or magma collapsing into the ocean from the shore. The resulting wave can travel across the expance of ocean at speeds up to 450 miles per hour. Only slowing as it gets to shallow water around a coast line. As the wave slows the energy that has been created has to go somewhere, the result is the wave becomes bigger, reaching as high as 30 meters or 100 feet.

Usually from an earthquake out at sea. This causes a small wave to start, which picks up more water as it advances towards shore.

Normally when an earthquake happens under the ocean the pressure that is exerted causes the sea to erupt and if it's near any kind of land/coastline it will erupt onto to the shore/land
