October is near the end of the hurricane season in Florida and so this is the time when the weather starts to get really nice and hot. Humidity is very low and November is when it starts to get quite dry. In October, tropical storms are likely but not too often. Hurricane season peaks in August and ends in November.

October is known to be the best time of year to visit Florida. It is not as wet as before then but not as hot as after. Temperature at this time of the year can high in the late 20 degrees C (80 degrees F) and can low around 16 (60 degrees F).  The hottest places at this time of year in Florida are Miami and Key West. Both places have an average temperature high of 29 degrees C (85 degrees F). The coldest places are Tallahassee, with an average low of 14 degrees C (57 degrees F) and Pensacola with an average low of 16 degrees C (60 degrees F).

Between October and May, fronts sweep across the state which keeps the climate dry, in particular across the peninsula. July is when dust outbreaks occur. Dust from the Sahara moves through the subtropical ridge and can change the sky from a blue, to a white and can lead to an increase of red sunsets across the horizon.

The east of the state sees the lowest amount of sunshine annually. On average, this part of Florida, including Orlando and Jacksonville see between 2,400 and 2,800 hours of sun over a year. The rest of Florida, see approximately between 2,800 and 3,200 hours annually.

Fog is very predominant in Florida and winter is where fog reaches a maximum. Across summer the fog count is low and so October should be safe from too much fog.

In summer, temperature across Florida can reach well into the high 30 degrees C range (90 degrees F). In winter, temperatures have previously fallen as low as below freezing (10-20 degrees F).
