Fungus (plural, fungi) can spread in a number of different ways, but sporification is a process that is often associated with the spread of fungi.
How does fungi spread? Spores are structures which are involved in the reproductive cycle of fungi. (Meiosis is the type of reproductive division that unicellular organisms undergo.)
Spores are important for fungal dispersal, and are therefore designed to withstand harsh conditions. They can survive in very challenging environments until they can make their way to a more hospitable environment.
For example, many mushroom spores are dispersed by attaching themselves to the hoofs of cows. They are then carried around until they end up in an environment that is more conducive to their survival (i.e. The correct temperature/atmosphere).
Certain species of fungi reproduce asexually (which means that they divide into separate fungal organisms), whilst others reproduce sexually by sharing genetic information in order to create an offspring.
Other single-celled fungi simply 'pinch off' a piece of the cell, which then develops into a brand new cell itself.
