Sodium chloride reacts with potassium nitrate to form potassium chloride and sodium nitrate. The reaction between sodium chloride and potassium nitrate is a double displacement reaction. The chemical formulas for sodium chloride, potassium nitrate, potassium chloride and sodium nitrate are NaCl, KNO3, KCl and NaNO3 respectively. The balanced chemical equation for the reaction is;

NaCl + KNO3 ------ > NaNO3 + KCl

There is no reaction as potassium has a higher affinity for the nitrate so sodium nitrate can't be formed
