Silver nitrate reacts with sodium chloride to form silver chloride and sodium nitrate. White precipitates are formed during this reaction. It is a double displacement reaction. The chemical formulas for silver nitrate, sodium chloride, sodium nitrate and silver chloride are AgNO3, NaCl, NaNO3 and AgCl respectively. The chemical equations for the reaction are;

AgNO3 ------> Ag+1 + NO3-1

NaCl ------> Na+1 + Cl-1

The balanced equation for the reaction is;

AgNO3 + NaCl ------ > AgCl + NaNO3
