Physical Science is the study of matter, energy, space and time. It is any science which studies non-living matter, however, it is generally considered that there are four main areas of Physical science, each of these have many sub divisions, the four main areas are:
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Astronomy
  • Earth Sciences
  • Chemistry
Chemistry is the science of matter and how it changes under chemical reactions. We rely on chemistry for just about every aspect in life, in our food, our medicines, everyday materials and microchips. All these things are developed with the specialist knowledge of a chemist.

  • Physics
Physics is the oldest field of study, and is a natural science involving the study of matter and its motion through space time. There are four basic forces in the
study of physics; these are gravitational forces, electromagnetic forces, strong nuclear forces and weak nuclear forces.

  • Astronomy
Astronomy is a natural science which studies celestial bodies, such as the stars, planets, comets, clusters and galaxies. People have studied astronomy for thousands of years, but only since the invention of the telescope has it developed into a modern science.

Earth Science is exactly that, it studies Planet Earth. Planet Earth is divided into 4 main spheres these are:

  • Atmosphere - The air that surrounds the Earth
  • Hydrosphere - The water around the Earth
  • Biosphere - The life on Earth
  • Geosphere - The outer part of the Earth, the Earth's crust
