The relationship between science and technology is a complex one which is the subject of increasingly intense study and debate within the academic field of sociology.

According to dictionary.reference.com, the definitions of the words 'science' and 'technology' are as follows:

- Science - a branch of knowledge or study dealing with a body of facts or truths systematically arranged and showing the operation of general laws; for instance 'the mathematical sciences'.
- Technology - the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science.

It can reasonably be argued that science and technology are co-related because the development of new technology is wholly reliant on scientific theory and applied science. In this sense science and technology and often described as an 'indivisible pair' with one word often being confused for the other. Technology can be viewed simply as the practical application of scientific information and theory. It is possible to look at any technological advance of the last century (for instance computers and television) as something that is based upon the understanding and advancement of key scientific tenets and principles.

The relationship between science and technology is an area that has a huge amount of academic study and research devoted to it. If you wish to learn more about the relationship in more detail and depth, then you might like to look at one of the following sites:

Science and technology are related.Without the development of science, technology would not have become so advanced.Science grows and simultaneously technology goes on improving.

Science discovers new principles and explain how nature works - technology finds and develops applications of the principles.
