For the needs of your project, I think pond maintenance strips would work. You can buy them to test different levels of chemicals and nutrients in the water of a man-made pond. Try a garden store or bigger places like Ace or Wal-Mart. All of those will have them and can direct you to the best ones to use for your project.

Your science teacher may have some to give you, as well.

Umm…I don't know much about this but in accordance with my knowledge, one can check the rate or the extent of water pollution by taking a sample from a polluted water body or any other water body and then sent it to an authentic laboratory so that it can check and name the pollutants that are present in the water. If the water is black...this also indicates that the water is highly polluted.
