Why Are All The Lines Of Latitude Labeled S And All The Longitude Lines Labeled E?

Hello 6th grade student...this question was the exact same question on my daughters homework, so we looked it up and found that all of the latitudes that are labeled S are in the southern hemisphere.  (they are labled N in the northern hemisphere)  the northern and southern hemishperes are divided by the equator.  0 degrees

the longitude lines are all labled E because they are east of the Prime meridian 0 degrees longitude.  Therefore, you are studying Australia.  Because it is in the southern hemisphere and east of the prime meridian.
