A barrel shaped organelle found in the cells is known as centriole. It is found in eukaryotic cells but it is absent in the higher plans and in fungi. Centrioles play a very important role in cell division and they help the cell in the completion of cytokinesis. However, research shows that even if the centrioles are removed from the cells still cells can carry out mitosis. Asters emerge from the centrioles which are very important in the arrangement of the chromosomes on the spindles.
