Quicksand is made up of a hydrocolloid gel,inclusive of sand, salt water and clay. The thickness of quicksand depends on the stress. Lower than 1% change in the stress causes decrease in the thickness of quicksand. Quicksand is formed when the water level in the sand is more than its usual level. In reality it cannot be termed as sand. In real term it is seepage of water which exists in sand. The presence of mass pebels and fine sand is the main reason for formation of quicksand. But water is the the essential ingridient required for its formation. Quicksand is also observed in deserts. In deserts it is mainly caused by the hot spring. It is usually seen that in quicksand that the water level is higher than soil and sand.
