Written communication is a permanent form of communication so it is very easy for records to be kept. It can also help in delegating responsibilities, as the written word is more grounded than the spoken word. Written communication is more precise and explicit than the spoken word and it can enhance a firm's image. Also, the records formed by the written word are perfect in legal defenses, as they are the most valid.

Disadvantages of using written communication can be that  it is costly. Stationary is required, not to mention employees to create the written communication. Response with written communication is not instant, therefore it can be incredibly time consuming. Effective written communication needs exceptional skill in language and vocabulary. This may mean having to spend time and money training employees. Finally, too much paperwork can be demotivating for a business and it's employees.
