The name "hot tub" comes from the association with a wooden structure filled with heated water which is often used for relaxation and hydrotherapy. The original pumped "jacuzzi" structure originates to around 1955, but the first outdoor hot tub was not developed until 1970, by Roy Jacuzzi.
