The 21st century has seen an incredible array on inventions enter the world of technology. The year 2000's list of new inventions was dominated by the futuristic Segway. The self-balancing, electric powered transportation machine uses five gyroscopes and a built-in computer to stay upright. Throughout 2001 the AbioCor artificial heart, artificial liver, fuel cell bike and self-cleaning windows were all invented. 2001 was also the first year that Apple unveiled their new music player - the iPod. In 2002, inventions included the Braille Glove, the phone tooth, Nano-tex, the virtual keyboard and solar towers. The birth control patch was also invented to help encourage safe sex. In 2003 Toyota invented their first hybrid car. During this year there was a panic about the SARS infection spreading and in turn the Infrared Fever Screening System was invented. This device allowed workplaces and public buildings to scan individuals for any fever symptoms, in particular a high temperature. 2004 brought with it the invention of Intel Express Chipsets, translucent concrete and SonoPrep medication dispensers. Halfway through the decade, in 2005, YouTube was brought to the internet. Named invention of the year, it has changed the way we view videos.
