London is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom. England is the largest and most populous country in the United Kingdom.

The UK is a political union of countries made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The country borders Scotland to the North, and Wales to the West - whilst Ireland is separated from Great Britain by the Irish sea. The English Channel separates Britain from the European mainland.
London The city is the largest metropolitan area of the entire European Union and one of the world's leading cities. Located on the river Thames, London has been the political, cultural and economic centre of England for two thousand years.

The city has the fifth largest metropolitan area GDP in the world and the largest in Europe. It is the world's most visited city and is also one of the leading financial centres of the global economy, generating roughly 20% of the UK's GDP.

London also has the world's largest city airport system (measured by passenger traffic) and in 2012 will be the first city to host the summer Olympic Games three times. London contains the Houses of Parliament - the centre of political power in the UK, and is also home to the Queen's main residence, Buckingham palace.
