The prime meridian and the 180° meridian (generally, the international date line) divide the eastern and western hemispheres. The equator divides northern and southern hemispheres. The Tropics (Cancer and Capricorn) are lines of longitude and do not divide east-west.

It's an imaginary division that some folks a long time ago agreed would be a line passing through Greenwich, England. It circles the globe, dividing it in two . This line is called the "International Date Line".

The prime meridian, which runs through London, England, divides the earth into eastern and western hemisphere, just as the equator divides the earth into northern and southern hemispheres.
