An isthmus known as isthmus in the Greek language basically is a thin strip of land bounded on both sides by water and links two bigger land masses. It is the opposite of a strait.
Isthmuses are found extensively in the Atlantic Ocean and Pacific Ocean; Isthmuses are idea to construct canals. The Suez Canal is a perfect example which permits ship transportation amid Europe and Asia without passing Africa. Some of the well known isthmuses are the Isthmus of Panama, the Isthmus of Corinth in Greece, the Isthmus of Dubrovnik, the Isthmus of Suez, the Isthmus of Medanos, the Isthmus of Kra, the Isthmus of Avalon which is found in Canada, the Isthmus of Chignecto, the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, the Isthmus of Perekop etc.
