Neptune's surface is found to be similar in comparison to Uranus. There is a combination of ice and glaciers, rocks and craters which is found to make Neptune’s surface along with about 15% hydrogen and some amount of Helium.

Neptune also contains some liquid nitrogen. It has a solid ground. Neptune centre contains a rocky interior with compressed gases in it. Neptune is of blue color as the methane gas in atmosphere is known to absorb red wavelengths from the light and then it reflects it in the form of blue. Neptune has a bit dark oval like dark spot as well.

For long, no one knew too much about the surface of earth's now farthest planetary cousin, Neptune. That was how it remained, until the Hubble Space Telescope went up into space. This telescope has been beaming pictures about a lot of things unknown till sometime back. Among other things, it was able also to beam to earth images of Neptune and its surface that shed new light on the climatic conditions on that planet.
From the images sent by Hubble in 1989, it became apparent that the surface of Neptune faced very strong winds, had bright clouds at high altitudes, and two large dark spots. These spots were attributed to giant storm systems. Wind speeds at these areas were as high as 730 miles per hour, nothing like what we ever experienced on earth. The larger of the two dark spots is called the Great Dark Spot, and is similar to the Great Red Spot seen on Jupiter. The planet's interior has a rocky core, along with an icy mantle. At the top of this mantle is a deep layer of liquid hydrogen. Besides, the planet's magnetic field is not the simple bipolar type seen on earth.

Neptune does not have a solid surface but scientists believe it is made up mostly of hydrogen, helium, water, and silicates.

It is blue and made of gases such as methane gas, ethane gas, acetylene, diacetylene. These constituents collectively are known as hydrocarbons.
