Samoa, formally known as the Independent State of Samoa, is a country consisting of a collection of a group of islands and is positioned towards the South Pacific Ocean.

It was initially known as the German Samoa till the year 1919, but was later renamed to Western Samoa. It was inducted into the United Nations, in the year 1976 as Samoa. The whole cluster was known as the Navigator Islands prior to the 20th century. According to the census conducted in the year 2001, the total area of this region was estimated to be 1093 square miles. As of the year 2005 the total population of this region was said to 185,000, having an average population density of 169 per square mile. The capital of this region is Apia.
