Ireland is the third biggest island in Europe. It is positioned towards the northwest of the Continent of Europe and has the island of Great Britain towards its east.

The name Ireland is obtained from the name Eriu with the application of the Germanic term 'land'. Customarily, Ireland is distributed into four provinces which are known as Connaught, Leinster, Munster and Ulster. Ireland has a total of 32 counties, out of which twenty six are situated in Republic of Ireland and the remaining six of them fall in the Northern Island.

The total area of Ireland is said to be 32,591 square miles. The climate of Ireland is mild and keeps varying throughout the year and the temperature of Ireland also keeps differing from -4 degrees Celsius minimum to 11 degrees Celsius maximum.
