Why Ammonium Acetate Is Used In DNA Extraction?

It acts as a chaotroph (at high concentrations) and will 'dehydrate' the DNA, meaning that the DNA is no longer water soluble, and will therefore precipitate in a watery solution. Also, the Ammonium Acetate is volatile and can evaporate (I think!)...
