The Seine is the river that runs through Paris. In France, it is not only a tourist attraction but also serves commercial purposes of trade and transport. The Seine originates in the north of France near the town of Dijon and ends at the English Channel. Its length is said to be approximately 776 kilometers and today has a depth of 8 meters. Efforts were made to raise the levels of the river in the 1800s. The river also has about 10 tributaries that flow throughout the country.
The Seine has played a rather important role in the history of France, and Paris in particular. Over the years it has also served a great source of inspiration for various artists and painters such as Claude Monet, Charles-François Daubigny, Vuillard, Eugène Boudin, Camille Corot, Constant Troyon, and Eugène Isabey to name a few. The St. Michel bridge is build across the Seine.
