Cell membranes constitute the outer most covering in animal cells. These membranes are made up of proteins and lipids. The structure of cell membrane is a little complex. Cell membrane basically consists of a thin layer of amphipathic phospholipids. This is in the form of bilayer which is known as lipid bilayer.  There are a number of integral proteins which are present in cell membrane. Moreover, cell membrane or plasma membrane also contains carbohydrates molecules. These are present in the extracellular spaces of the cell membrane in the form of glycoproteins. However, basically components that make the cell membranes include, lipids and proteins.
