Purpose, audience, tone and content are the terms which are commonly used in business communications. Purpose is the desired effect of the communication and audience is the target people to whom the message is to be delivered. For example, when an instructor and student communicates online then the purpose and audience are relevantly equivalent. The purpose is determined by the audience to whom the communication is delivered.
Therefore, the purpose of the business communication is to attain a desired effect on the audience. Tone means the way the message is delivered and content is what is being delivered. Tone and content are significantly different from each other and they are interpersonally or professionally expressed. If in a business communication, purpose, audience, tone and content are clearly defined and known then the effectiveness of business communication is increased.
