Shaw is a township in Berkshire, England. It is situated to the north of Newbury close to the village of Donnington. The village is quiet famous for The Elizabeth stately home Shaw house. It was Charles I's head office for the duration of second battle of Newbury.
The Elizabeth stately home is one of the largest estates built during the 16th century. These kinds of estates were purely built for residential purpose and became more of a status symbol for the grand families of England, who vied against each other to present better hospitality for the members of the Royal family. Prominent architects like Robert Adam, Sir Charles Barry, Sir Edwin Lutyens, Sir John Vanbrugh, Capability brown and Humphry Repton were engaged to add new style to the building.
