Belgium is a western European country that borders the North Sea and shares its borders with France, Luxemburg and Netherlands. It has a total area of 33,990 km². The land of Belgium can be divided into three main types; coastal plains, the central plateau and Ardennes up lands.
- The costal plains: These are in the North West and consist of sand dunes and the polders that are the areas that have been reclaimed from the sea.
- The central Plateau: Is a very smooth but slowly rising surface that is irrigated by many rivers and has many fertile valleys.
- The Ardennes: Is a rugged terrain that also has some thick forests and is the home to wildlife of Belgium.
