Neptune was the name for Posideon for Romans. Neptune's water relates to Posideon because he was Greek God of Sea. The Blue Methane Gas also symbolized to Posideon because that is the color of Water.

Named for the Roman god of the sea,who is called Poseidon in Greek.
It is also due to the blue colour of the planet
