Zaccharias Janssen and his son Hans, while experimenting with multiple lenses in a tube around 1590 in Holland, discovered that nearby objects could be greatly magnified. That was the origin of the modern compound microscope. In 1609, Galileo Galilei made a better version which included a focusing mechanism. Thirty years or so later, another Dutchman, Anton van Leeuwenhoek, developed this basic principle into instruments of great power which he used to make numerous scientific discoveries, and he is generally known as the father of microscopy

It was Hans Lippershey, and Hans Janssen. Said to have been made around 1595, in Middleburg, Holland. Giovanni Faver, is credited with naming the 'microscope', whom also gave the name to Galileo Galilei's compound microscope in 1625.

Truly its said that the uses of lenses was from a very early stage , but the real man who first combined all the lenses and together formed a microscope was anton leeuwenhoek (anthony or whatever) the cell was discovered by robert hooke in 1665 ,and isaac   and other scientists were also present and later they re-created or re-discovered different types of microscopes !

The first truly compound microscope was made around 1595 in Middelburg, Holland. Three different eyeglass makers have been given credit for the invention: Hans Lippershey, 1570 - 1619; Hans Janssen; and his son, Zacharias, 1580 - 1632. (Dates/details not complete as many records were destroyed during World War II.)

The microscope is used for viewing things that are too small to be seen with the naked eye.

The word microscope came from two Greek words, "mikros" which meant small and "skopos" used for watcher. So microscope is a watcher of small. This is an instrument used to see tiny things which are invisible to the naked eye. If a simple convex lens is placed between the eye and the object, the object can be brought nearer than 25 centimetres and still be in focus. We can simply describe this as "using a magnifying glass. Ordinary magnifying glasses are really "simple microscopes" and as they have been known since remote times. So when we speak of the invention of the microscope, we mean "the compound microscope". In this kind of microscope, magnification takes place in two stages. There are two lenses used in a microscope, one is "the objective" and another one is "the eyepiece". But in practical practice, there are several lenses used for both the objective and eyepiece, but the principle is that of two stages magnification.

The compound microscope was invented between the time 1590 to 1610, and the credit is given to Galileo. But Leeuwenhoek, a Dutch scientist is called "the father of the microscope", but that's because of the many discoveries he did with the microscope.

Microscope was invented by Anton Van Leewenhoek.
He was an English scientist and was known as the English Father of Microscopy. We use microscope to detect the presence of small , invisible through naked eyes , micro organisms like bacteria , fungi etc ....

Better than telling you the answer directly, here's an interesting story of the microscope which 'll tell you who invented it. Check out the comment for the website.

The Microscope has been around since the 1st century Roman times. But the person who actually got the lenses to work to see the cells was Anthony Leeuwenhoek.
