Dunkirk is a seaport that is located between the Belgian coast and Calais. Nevertheless the general concept about Dunkirk is an evocative name that is synonymous to the Second World War. The simple reason is that it was from Dunkirk and its 10-mile stretch of beaches that Britian evacuated a plethora of soldiers after the collapse of Belgium and eventually the collapse of France. The troop evacuation occurred between the dates of may 26th and June 3rd 1940. The soldiers were under incessant bombing by the German troops both from the land and from the air.

The outset of evacuation started happening from the ruins of the harbor at Dunkirk but by the 28th of May, the adverse impact of the heavy German bombing had already precluded the usefulness and utility of the Dunkirk harbor's usefulness. In short, Dunkirk was the main venue where the war actually took an unexpected twist.
